Les Collections de Saint-Cyprien: a fun and participative educational service for all ages

Les Collections de Saint-Cyprien offers a rich and varied educational service, accessible to all ages, from kindergarten to high school. Led by a team of enthusiastic professionals, the service aims to introduce young people to the world of art in a fun, participatory way.

Educational activities in the Collections

The educational department offers two types of activities:

  • Guided tours for young schoolchildren are adapted to every level of education, from kindergarten to high school. They are led by a qualified cultural mediator who uses playful, participatory methods to capture children’s attention.
  • Educational workshops are organized in a dedicated room, according to the Collections exhibition schedule. They enable children to discover artistic techniques in a hands-on, interactive way.

Rates for educational activities at the Saint-Cyprien Collections :

Guided tours and educational workshops are free for Saint-Cyprien schools. For other communes, the cost is €25 per group (guided tour + educational workshop).

A look back at the educational workshops organized with the Saint-Cyprien Collections

Example of an educational workshop – Cycle 1

During the “Les gestes en dialogue” exhibition, running from the end of February to the end of April 2023, Les Collections de Saint-Cyprien organized educational workshops on the theme of the current exhibition.

The cultural team welcomed 6 kindergarten classes, representing some 166 children.

The workshop was divided into two parts:

  • Step 1: Making wood pulp
  • Step 2: Making an iron frame for a rugby ball. The children then shaped the ball using newspaper. Finally, they covered the whole with wood pulp.

Example of an educational workshop – Cycle 2 & 3

The children turn the subject of the work into an advertising poster.

Using a variety of techniques, including collage, colors and magazines, children create an original composition based on the theme of the Last Supper.

This activity introduces children to major artistic movements such as Fauvism, Pop Art and Street Art.

14 classes, or 380 children, took part in the workshop.

Example of an educational workshop – Post bac (Idem école supérieure des métiers créatifs et numériques)

2 groups of students, or 30 young adults, accompanied by their teacher Florence Delaunay, took an active part in the guided tour and creative workshops.

The objective? The youngsters had to take the subject of the work and turn it into an advertising poster.

Using a variety of techniques such as collage, colors and magazines, the young people created an original composition based on the theme of the Last Supper.

Pedagogical aim: a youthful reinterpretation of a biblical scene.

The SOP project (Olympic and Paralympic Week)

All the school’s classes took part in the project to create a giant sculpture in plastic film. Each class represented a number of sportsmen and women in a variety of disciplines. They used a method of making characters out of scotch tape molded onto a human body. The various interventions in the classes took place from March 13 to April 3, 2023.

175 children took part in the event.

The Saint-Cyprien Collections educational service is an excellent opportunity for children to discover art in a fun, interactive way. It helps them develop their critical faculties and creativity, while offering them a moment of pleasure and sharing.

Example of a project with the Maison des Jeunes de Saint-Cyprien: Pavillon Bleu project

Organization of a participative action between the MDJ and the Collections de Saint-Cyprien. 30 teenagers from the Maison des Jeunes made mega nanas of the Sea and City in the style of Niki de Saint-Phalle.

6 sessions have been scheduled for the summer of 2023 to carry out this project. On Thursday August 10, 2023, the mega nanas were on display at the Saint-Cyprien Tourist Office on the Port.
