What is a portrait? Do we have to show a face or a body to represent a person?
In this workshop, children will be invited to reflect on who we are beyond our outward appearance. Drawing on Ben and Sarah’s photographic work on portraiture, they will discover that a person can be represented through words, objects, colours or symbols.
Each participant will begin by writing a few words that represent them — or that describe a person of their choice: qualities, passions, memories, emotions.
Then, on a sheet of paper or card, they will create a symbolic and colourful portrait – without necessarily drawing the body – using the technique of their choice: drawing, collage, painting or an assemblage of images.
This workshop celebrates inner richness and freedom of expression, whilst raising awareness of the diversity of ways in which we can represent ourselves.
